Amritha's Art Work - Waiting | Acrylic on canvas
I am an Indian contemporary visual artist based in the United Kingdom. My practice spans figurative painting, drawing, commissioned murals and public-facing art. My work focuses on quiet and often overlooked moments of everyday life, including rest, waiting, solitude and shared domestic space. Through these familiar situations, I explore memory, belonging, vulnerability, wellbeing and human connection, including experiences shaped by living between India and the United Kingdom. I work primarily with acrylic and oil, building images through layered colour, visible brushwork and expressive surfaces. I prefer to keep traces of the painting process present so that texture, movement and material remain part of the final image. Alongside my studio practice, I have developed experience in commissioned murals, collaborative public art and arts education in India and the United Kingdom. My professional practice includes participation in Varavazhikal (2022), a collaborative public-art project associated with the Kochi-Muziris Biennale Foundation, and selection for the British Council's Study UK Creative Connections 2026. I hold an MA in Contemporary Arts Practice from De Montfort University, Leicester, following my undergraduate training in painting at Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, Kerala, India.

“For me, figurative painting is not simply about creating a likeness of a person. I am interested in what a body, gesture, domestic environment, or quiet moment can communicate about someone's emotional experience—exploring rest, wellbeing, memory, and human connection.”
